Just a quick Camshaft Question
I am getting ready to take out my factory block and install a 355ci Short Block and heads. I bought a camshaft also to go with this as I thought it would be best to get now since the motor will be out the car...Anyway the Camshaft is from Cam Motion and the stats reads as follows from the cam card:
Intake: Exhaust:
adv:277 adv: 277
.050: 220 .050:220
Lobe Lift: .338 .338
Valve Lift:.507 .507
Lobe Separation 112 DEG.
Intake Centerline 108 DEG.
My question is how do you think this cam will perform in my TPI setup?
Also from my research these valve springs listed below....I can just take my old ones off and put these on without doing all that machine work I see people talking about on these boards. Am I correct in my thinking?

Re: Just a quick Camshaft Question
My Lingenfelter 211/219 cam is more than enough for a TPI.....
so you're 220/220 might wanna rev higher than a Stock TPI wants to....?
I think that with that much lift you'll have to have the have the "Stock Heads" machined somewhat....... they're out anyways.
If you don't want the added expense of machining your heads for a higher than stock lift, pick a camshaft with less than .460" (if memory serves me correctly)

Re: Just a quick Camshaft Question
i agree. that cam is for top end power. and stock tpi is for low speed torque.

Lets not start that discussion again.......
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tpi/...m-big-tpi.html
Look at this tech article......... it might give you an idea.......
https://www.thirdgen.org/mods3
some of the cams on that link are older.... and since then newer versions have been released, but it gives you an idea of where "stock" is and the variations from there...
This is a good read as well......

Watch for the word "Peak Hp". your engine will still make power after its Peak Hp but it will be on it's way down.... (obviously) Think about where in your RPM band that you want your best power for a lack of a better term and decide from there.....

Re: Just a quick Camshaft Question
I talked to a sales rep and he said with those springs I can avoid having the heads machined! How much would maching them cost anyway though?

Re: Just a quick Camshaft Question
The springs may be able to handle the amount of lift that the camshaft produces..... but the spring retainer (disc ontop of the spring) or the valve locks (keepers) will hit the valve seal or valve guides when they are pushed down too far
When you have the heads machined for higher than stock lift you get the valve guides reduced in height so that you don't hit them and smash your seals..... which could pop your locks off the valve and drop it into your engine at whatever RPM it's spinning at

Re: Just a quick Camshaft Question
Dude.... In in Canada!!!!
Where everything costs double!!!!
You'll just have to call around you're local machine shops and ask what it'll cost to modifiy your stock heads for *** lift.... it should be a flat price.
But once you get in the door the machine shop will tell you that those heads need to be jet washed, Magnafluxed, milled for straightness, and will probably tell you that the old vavle guides gotta go anyway.
Happy shopping
