No details makes it hard to say much, oil from where burning out the exhaust, coming out the intake, gushing out a bad gasket. That's even if the probelm is oil related other things cause smoke, if it is smoking.

Headgaskets deal with water and cylinder compression

Also what is included for the $300 sensors, harness, injectors, alternator, starter, headers? can't tell you much

If the motor is junk your buying a intake/block and maybe a few other parts

Still tells me nothing, other than maybe the shifter linkcage isn't adjusted right and park isn't fully engauging. You know like those vids of cops jumping in cars that poped in reverse and are driving themselves in reverse circles.

If you can't see where the oil is going pop off the oil pan and look up at the cylinder walls b4 you drop it in. If they look shinny then rings are washed, common on rebuilds. Did it myself long long ago on my 1st rebuild and my current motors problem of the TA I bought with a bad rebuild motor. Bad plugs could be oil fouled and will just refoul over n over. Hope it's just leaking somewhere if not your gonna have to tear it all down or it will never run right. Rear of the intakes are common leak on tpi.

Yah 300 is a good start paid bout 850 for my whole car, I'm approaching 5,000 including cost, but I got lots of mods(not all are in my sig) and the car needed so much basic stuff radiator, alt, panrodbar, fixing the headlights, exhaust. It was just a solid car a good start.

Rem when buying something people tell you what you want to hear not what you should, why else would you be asking on here. I'd still want to know where the oil is going b4 i bought it, didn't care on mine wanted the solid body n it had some ok parts with it. If it's his car and he knows anything he prob knows exatcly where it is going, I'd just use it as a negotiating tool to offer less. Details!

What part of the pan? Sides yah pan gasket, front might be pan gasket when he changed the cam depending on how he did it(droped pan or just loosened) or it's has a bad balancer seal. Rear could be rearmain seal. Doesn't sound too bad, I'm betting if it's front he just loosened the pan too remove/install the timing chain cover on cam change and didn't get a good seal on retighting.

My TA sounded fine w/o a single sensor hooked up, now when you drove it.
