Looking for a few answers

I know I'm opening a can of worms with these questions but here goes....I have the 305TPI and am keeping it. I don't want to use a 350 yet.(I'm hard headed and will admit it.) So my questions are:

What are some good cam and heads for this engine? I'd like to use the Vortec heads unless someone can convince me otherwise.

What actually produces torque???

What is the difference between the 350TPI and 305TPI runners and are there any aftermarket runners???

And I'd also like to hear from anyone who actually produced a nice powerful TPI305 and what they did to their engine to do it??

A good cam would be a 1994 Z-28 roller cam ($50 online used)

Heads- Up to you, iron cracks, aluminum warps with overheating. Iron is heavey, alum. is 50 LBS lighter, If you get vortec heads, you'll have to by a Edelbrock vortec TPI intake (around $400) Plenum and runners are the same up to a certain year but 86 and 87 TPI systems are the identicle.

My upgrades? 22 lb Bosch III, 1994 Z-28 cam, Hypertech PROM CHip, removed MAF screen, ported the plenum, cut out the bottoms of the intake boxes, removed smog pump and accessories, removed catalytic converter. Gains? Probably around 5-10 horses. Give or take.
