Fuel system woes

Now that I have my 91 Z running I realized that most of the time under load it sputters or bucks, and it surges at stoplights. I decided to tape my fuel pressure gauge to my windshield while I ran some errands today. The first thing is that at idle it's only like 31-32 psi. Under load or heavy acceleration it drops to between 25-27 psi. When I turn it off it doesn't hold enough pressure to register on the gauge, though there is some pressure there when I remove the gauge.
The car has a new fuel pump, new filter and all of the injectors ohm out above 16 and they are all clicking normally.
The one thing that concerns me is that the previous owner did the fuel pump replacement by cutting a hole in the floor, cutting all of the steel lines and reconnecting them with peices of rubber hose.
If anyone has any ideas why I'm losing pressure I'd love to hear them.
Thanks,Tim

It's not leaking. I've pulled it out twice to check it too. Could the spring go bad ?

Re: Fuel system woes

you are going to have to test your fuel system then... search for fuel system test or leak down test...

Re: Fuel system woes

Ok, after testing it, it turned out to be the fuel pump. The parts store I bought it from warrantied it for me. I just hope this one doesn't go bad too. Now it's throwing a code 32 and 33 so I have to figure that oyut now. The 32 is because I have the egr unhooked but the 33 I don't know why.
