Carb to TPI conversion questions.
Carb to TPI conversion questions.
First off I'm new here. I was refered here by several sources saying this is the best place to learn.
The more I drive my 99 Trans am the more I hate the demon carb on my 383 truck. It runs pig rich, stumbles, changes weekly and after 5 years of the carb deal I'm pretty much done. So, on my truck forums everyone has said that for a 4x4 TPI is a good choice, because of its simplicity, cost and reliability. Also that it provides more torque than other systems.
My friend has his complete factory TPI setup for his old GTA from when he switched to a StealthRam that he said he would give me. Obviously I need the wiring, dist and other pieces. But the real pickle is the wiring. I'm not sure that I want to spend $500 on a painless harness, I'm fairly well versed in electrical but I"m not too sure where to start.
Is it overly complicated to find a complete harness in a junkyard, or buy a used one off ebay and wire it into my truck? It's an 84 K5 blazer by the way, so the current harness is quite simple.

Re: Carb to TPI conversion questions.
You just get a stock TPI harness ( complete with the firewall connector and under dash harness to the computer ) and remove all the wiring you don't need ( mainly pollution stuff)
If you wish can have the elec fuel pump run "key on" so you don't need computer control and you can run the elec fan directly from a temp switch in head which removes further wiring

If you don't have a T700 trans that you can swap the cable drive for a elec speed sensor you will need one of these to give the speedo signal to the computer
