Help with my 305 TPI

Hey I am hoping someone can help me...I have a 1986 Iroc Z with a 305 TPI. I recently bought a Edelbrock cam and lifter kit from summit racing to replace the stock one that was in it. Well I done everything by the book ( bought a Hanyes repair manual and followed the intructions) and now it will not start. I've checked all my vaccum lines and alll the little things I could think of that could possibly be wrong and I've got nothing. I tried turning the distributer for heck of it and I found out it will start up and run if you set the distirubter to on number 6 instead of number 1, but it doesn't have any power. I did call the tech line and the cam is suppose to work with my car. I don't know if I missed something, or if there is something about my car I don't know about. Any suggestions?

Here is the link to the cam: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EDL-2102/

Yes it will turn over. The fuel pressure is good and it is firing. That's why I'm so puzzled. I can't seem to figure out what the problem is. I was wondering if there was something small I might have over looked...or something special I need to do for this particular engine.

retime the motor...double check everything..

are you sure you got the cam gears lined up properly?

and becareful starting/stopping that cam...its hyd flat tappet, it HAS to be broken in properly, or the chances of wiping a cam lobe are severe.

yeah make sure that cam markings are lined up as well as the crank tdc, one other thing is that you purchased a flat tappet cam and lifter kit are you sure it wasn't a roller cam and not flat tappet
