ok so im in the middle of clearing room under my hood (removed washer fluid container, ready to remove ac parts and maybe move a few things around to help with the clutter) and im looking at this stuff on the passenger side and have no idea what it is. any would be awesome. just need to know what it is/does and if it can be removed without effecting negatively on the cars performance. ive heard something mentioned about A.I.R?? maybe that goes with it but i dont know.

"In a system for delivering air from an air pump to the exhaust system of an internal combustion engine, an air diverter valve assembly has a regulating control responsive to air pump discharge pressure which positions the diverter valve member to divert excess air flow away from the exhaust system when the pressure exceeds a selected value. The assembly also has a timed anti-backfire provision effective to override the regulating control and divert all air flow to the atmosphere upon a sudden decrease in induction manifold pressure."

Wow lol that was a little more then I was looking for but interesting. I notice there is something directly below it with a pulley on it and obviously used to be belt driven but the bel has been removed before I owned it. I didn't know I'd they were related or not or if I could get rid of that whole mess to remove clutter. Cause there's a lot of it. If another picture is needed I'll get one in the
morning when there is light
