fuel pump makes third gen get spanked by saturn.
i got a 89 formula 350. needed a new fule pump,.. it is tpi,.... so i called up advanced and they had one on hand. sweet!! i cut a hole in trunk pan instead of pulled out the rear half of the car. easY! replaced the metal lines with a fuel inj. rubber hose. not When i turn the key on, it primes. LOUD and then when you turn it on you can hear it running>??? then it starts to act like it is missing, or to much fuel? or something slowing the flow back? to the tank? and then building unwanted pressure in line then makeing it die.?? idk and i NEED this CAR!! ill be pulling the pump again ill try and get some pics. but any thoughts,, would be welcomed with open mind thanks!

im not much help here, but why did you not reuse the stock steel lines?
And im pretty sure cutting a hole took longer than draining the fuel and dropping the gas tank.... would for me anyways.
Maybe your sucking air in the line? Or leaking fuel out?

Since this really has nothing to do with converting a TPI car into something else (i.e, hsr, singleplane, etc) I'm gonna move this to the TPI forum which probably gets more troubleshooting activity.

Anyways, yea maybe you got a TBI fuel pump? Check the fuel pressure. You can rent a fuel pressure test kit from autozone if you dont have a fuel pressure gauge

OP
Make sure you didn't get a TBI pump.
Also make sure your bends with the rubber FI hose aren't to sharp, use a hose clamp or two in the turn to make it stay round.

Is it a high flow pump? I put in a Walbro 255 pump, and my fuel pressure was WAY higher than it was with the stock pump. I had to re adjust the AFPR.

my buddy just had the same exact problem and come to find out they gave him a TBI pump and it only pushes 27psi.....They returned the pump and had to order the right one and we pulled the tank and changed pumps and Bang works great again.... Take the part number and look it up online and see what type of pressure it pushes and that should help fix your problem

Thats what sucks about tbi and tpi pumps..they look identical..and part numbers are very close together so alot of part stores mix them up..sometimes they are wrong pump in the right box.Always check your pressure after you do a pump swap..and make sure it holds that pressure aswell..you may have a regulator leak but a good pump.I cut a access door and put in a pump only to find my stock pump was working fine but my regulator was torn so check that aswell.
