HELP! Car stalling and running poorly after mods
HELP! Car stalling and running poorly after mods
Im at my wits end here guys. In a previous round of mods I added a summit 1103 camshaft to my MAF TPI'd '82 T/A. I had it running well, but then i decided to replace the intake base and runners with higher flowing units. So, i just completed that round of mods and now i got problems. The first thing i noticed when starting the car is that when the engine cranks, it sounds... lopey? Not sure the best way to describe it other than that. it cranks around a little then slows down, then picks back up... (not even sure this is a problem, just different then before) when it does start, it runs real rough and dies if i dont keep the throttle pedal down. When i rev it, it stumbles and backfires a bit when i lift my foot (possibly rich?). If i unplug the MAF sensor it will stay running although a bit rough. Another thing i noticed when I reassembled everything is that the distributor is clocked in a different spot when the timing is set. I checked and the distributor is def. seated all the way down and the cap is on in the correct orientation (i thought i had the tab in the cap off of the notch in the dist. base.) I am thinking maybe the ignition module? although i have MSD 6a so im not sure it its even using the module in the dist... Also i am suspecting a bad MAF or possibly the MAF relay? I dont know, any thoughts? or at least tests i can do to check the MAF? I wouldnt think a sensor would be bad seeing all i did was change out the base and runners.

That sound that it is making, sounds like the same one my car was making when my timing was way off.
