common problem???

common problem???

driving down the feeder of 45 the other day, and the car usually stays at about a quarter on the temp guage.since im running no thermostat, she will only get up to 3/8ths in traffic......well she warmed up and the engine light came on, traffic started moving again and as the temp. got back down the engine light went out and never came back on. what does that mean........any help is much appreciated

For starters you need to put a thermostat in you car. The problem is if the car dosnt get warmed up and stays in open loop operation this is not good. This is what I suspect happened. You have a problem that was not realized by your ECM until your car entered closed loop operation. The problem was detected and you check engine light was triggered. However one your temps droped back down again and you reverted back to open loop operation and the problem could no longer be detected. I would check for any stored codes and see what comes up and put a thermostat in the car and see how it does.
