bad fuel pump...

hey everyone... how can you tell if your fuel pump is going bad.. within the past two days my car is really hard to start and it will stall out and die...... when i have the car running i have the fuel pressure cap off and its just slowly pouring out gas... i thought it was suppose to spray out because of the pressure... soon as i turn the car off i press down on the fuel rail valve and i get no fuel comming out at all.... i have a brand new 355 tpi engine with new 24lb injectors and crane afpr but i still have the stock 22 year old fuel pump... also i noticed that i see what it looks like fuel stains or something in the throttle body and plenum...... what is going on.... im thinking its the fuel pump... im kinda afraid to drive it.. any tips would help... thanks...

Re: bad fuel pump...

Seems that your pump is bad.Get a fuel pressure gauge, and measure pressure.Should be ~45psi when vacuum line removed from regulator, and engine running.
When my walbro F20000169 pump went bad few weeks ago, pressure drops from 47psi to ~15psi,and below that pressure engine wont run.Now there is Walbro GSS340M and it runs fine.

Change the fuel filter first - it may be plugged.

[QUOTE=88fastgta;4638074]also i noticed that i see what it looks like fuel stains or something in the throttle body and plenum...... what is going on.... QUOTE]

If there are fuel stains in the plenum your regulator may be leaking by, pull the hose off the reg to make sure there is no fuel spilling out of the nipple
