cold start switch

how do you test to see if the cold start switch is operating correctly?engine does not like to start when cold,just a little shot of starting fluid and she starts right up.not sure if cold start switch,cold start injector, or what is going on.any help is appreciated.

The way to see if its working or not you need a fuel pressure gauge. What you do is dissconnect the 4 pin connector at the distributor this will disable the fuel injector pulse. Hook up for fuel pressure gauge and turn the ignition to the run position. You should see fuel pressure build up and remain steady. Then crank the car. You now should see the fuel pressure drop by at least 3 psi. This will show that fuel pressure is being bled off at the cold start injector since the other injectors will not fire with the distributors connector unplugged. Also all of this needs to be done with the motor stone cold obviously. If it is determined that the fuel pressure is not dropping there is a problem in the cold start system and youll need to diagnose the problem further.
