Weird drivability problem

So, im out driving and I get off the on ramp on the highway and have to give it 3/4 throttle as usual, only when I let off the gas, it starts wanting to die. I push the gas and it makes it worse. I pump the gas and it runs like crap but the revs go up hesitantly. I floor the gas and it reluctantly wants to go but does like it has a horrible miss. Idle was hunting for a while, and had no power then Idle was fine, but when you gave it gas it wanted to die. I get it home, let it cool, get in and it fires right up and drives like nothing ever happened. This is the second time it's done this. Every component except injectors seems to be the culprit. But then if it was injectors, shouldnt this be a constant? It could be that they are heat sensitive and just starting to fail.... but then it could also be the fuel pump. EGR may also play a part. The SES light doesnt work, as the ribbon on the back is peeled. But I am going to scan it later anyway. Idea's? I would like to trouble shoot before I test everything to maybe save me some time. Thank you guys for your time! Rob.

Re: Weird drivability problem

I have had the injectors do that to me. But they would only act up when they get hot. I don't think the egr would cause problems for the car at rpms over 1500. But it will definitely cause idle problems. You might be losing your ignition module. When mine failed it did what you are describing.

Ignition module, injectors or fuel pump... 1 of the 3, to replace all of them it will be close to $250-$320 bucks...

Re: Weird drivability problem

That sounds like a problem I've been fighting for years. When the car was auto, it would only do it if you started driving the car before it went into closed loop. Now that its a stick, it will do it anytime it feels like it. It ALWAYS set a code 33 (MAF) when it would go screwy, even though the sensor and all relays have been replaced. I then had the chip modified so code 33 was turned off. It still has the problem, now it just doesn't turn on the SES light, lol. I have replaced just about everything over the years, it almost has to be faulty wiring.

Re: Weird drivability problem

Backfiring thru both ends of the engine??? You floor it and it seems to try to run, but is very weak? If so I had the same symptoms.... replace the ecm and life will be good again.
