Re: L98 or LS1

it will cost way more to convert to a LS1 & harness plus trans <> is a way better base to start with

Your L98 you will need a cam, heads, AFPR, Intake such as HSR, injectors, TB, tune,
steel crank for a bullet proof bottom END.. pistons would be nice

Re: L98 or LS1

It seems from my perspective your be better with just your current l98, no, you DIDNT answer my questions but i doubt your wanna deal with the ls1.

Now are you planning on keeping it an 350 or do you wanna bump the cubes up? If so 355 or 383?

Again what do you want out of the car, is she going be an dd, how much money do you want to spend?

You can't go wrong either way, the ls1 will be alot more involved though

Re: L98 or LS1

I have a 99 FRC Vette. I love my LS1 however, It would cost a good bit to properly convert a 3rd gen to LSx power. If I wanted an LSx I would just buy a 4th Gen. LSX is easier to make power but you can make good power for much less doing the 5.7 Gen I. I am putting together an engine for my 89 Iroc as we speak. I got deals on everything I picked up a 60,000 mile original short block L98 for $175.00. It's in Great Shape, I picked up a new Hot Cam from EBay for $130.00 and the main deal? I got a set of Dart Iron Eagles, professionally ported, fresh valve job, 1.6 aluminum Roller Rockers, 7/16 studs and Guide Plates, and ARP Head bolts... all for $603.00.
I already had intake, siemesed runners and siemesed plenum. My point is I should have 310 -330 RWHP with my six speed Iroc for really just over $1100.00 when I am done. I couldn't begin to touch that going LSx. There is so much good quality used stuff out there right now. If you don't get in a hurry, give yourself a few months you can put together a great powerplant for very little
Good Luck!
Dave

Re: L98 or LS1

True, there is a large markup when going to LSx buying directly. On the flip side however, several members who bought a whole donor car end up profiting from the swap with resold parts

Next, think about mods on the GEN I SBC vs GEN III. If took you just over a grand to get to stock LS1 territory. After my own swap Ive decided to never look back at the older stuff
