MAF burnoff relay replacement

I hope this is the proper section to ask the following question, if not sorry.

I recently got a code 36 (MAF burnoff relay). I have an all original 89 IROC with the 5.7. The burnoff relay I removed had the number 8162 over 14089936. I searched this topic to great length but did not find a definitive answer regarding whether or not to replace with the same relay number.

I went to my local chevrolet dealership who advised me that 14089936 was the replacement and that there had been no service bulletin update that would indicate that this is not the correct relay.

I did pull the negative battery cable in case this is an intermittent problem but I also purchased the new relay from chevy. BTW the AC DELCO relay has made in china stamped on it... WTF!

Does anyone know if this is the right relay and if not what number should I have replaced it with? Is there anything else I should be checking for?

Re: MAF burnoff relay replacement

I believe the oval shaped relays are all the same, the cooling fan also uses the same relay.

Re: MAF burnoff relay replacement

Well, I re-connected the battery, started it up and let it idle until it was around the 220* mark then shut it down. Waited about 10 minutes, fired it up and no code. Fired it up two more times after that with no code, so I guess it was just an intermittent code 36.

The reprint factory manual I bought off Ebay for 35 bucks is becoming invaluable, as Haynes and Chilton do not give near the explanation on stuff like the factory manual.

Now I have a spare relay lying around but I guess it could have been worse, I could have bought a new MAF.
