stock GM MAF low on the foodchain?
stock GM MAF low on the foodchain?
Was speaking with a few mechanics in my area about my car (89 firebird) and they told me the stock GM mass airflow sensor is basically crap and they recommend getting a different one. I currently have a Bosch MAF.
According to this post https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tpi/...ow-sensor.html Bosch and Micro Tech are both mentioned (as well as hitachi i believe).
I am looking for some recommendations on a replacement MAF if what these mechanics said is true. If anyone has information to clarify or confirm/dismiss their claims, I am all ears.
My car is still pretty much stock but i plan on adding some minor upgrades in the near future (new higher airflow intake and larger exhaust, either with new catalytic converters or from the cats to the trunk). Would adding a new intake and exhaust system require me to reprogram the MAF or will these upgrades be considered minor and work fine?
(note: before purchasing my firebird in june of 2010, i knew nothing about cars, so please spell out abbreviations in this post. Thank You)

madmax is right.
Also, an aftermarket exhaust system won't require any prom/ECM adjustments.
What type of intake mod are you talking about? Like the air box and ducting, or an actual intake manifold/plenum/runner swap. That shouldn't require an ECM mod either.
