Fuel Rails Clogged with White Stuff

The car was running OK, but power was not great. Brought the car to a new mechanic for smelling gas. He noticed a leak in the back of the fuel rail. After he disassembled rails, he called with the bad news. He said he had seen this sort of thing only one other time on a throttle body. We have no explaination for this residue. The engine was rebuilt 22,000 miles ago at 112,000. I personally replaced the fuel pump and inspected/flushed out the gas tank about 1,500 miles ago. Inside of tank looked very clean. Car had been sitting for about 8 months prior to starting up about two weeks ago, very little driving, less than 50 miles.

Anyone ever seen this before?

Yep, local guy had that same thing. I seem to recall someone else having this problem as well. Still no idea what it is.

tear apart your fuel filter, then tear apart a new one and compare...

Re: Fuel Rails Clogged with White Stuff

cutting up the fuel filter is in the plan, not done yet, though. I can't imagine what could have caused this. One pic I did not post showed a nipple that should be part of the fuel rail, but totally gone, chemically dissolved.

there is really only one explaination... some one put something into the gas tank, yes? The fuel filter was changed regularly. Any thing put into the gas would have to be a liquid that attacked aluminum, causic or acidic, I don't know. Whatever happened, the result is a real mess and very costly.

Good grief!!! Better invest in a locking gas cap as well.

Re: Fuel Rails Clogged with White Stuff

I have a fuel rail, and coincidentally injectors ....

Give me a few days let me see if I can locate the rail. I know they are in the shop somewhere I just need to find them.

If you get them, let me know so I'll stop looking.

Call me if you need anything I'll see what I can do to help out, number below.

Re: Fuel Rails Clogged with White Stuff

Mine did that 3years ago. I never figured out what it was. I had to replace all of my injectors and clean every piece of the rail really good. I've never seen anyone else till now with that problem. I was stumped for days. I thought someone put something in my tank but it def wasn't sugar. Since then I just chalked it up to ethanol in the gas. Keep us posted.

Re: Fuel Rails Clogged with White Stuff

sorry... only some of you guys suck! I swear... no pissed off girls in my life, at least none with any chemical knowledge. No real update, I'm just replacing the fuel rails and pressure reg. I messaged about 4 guys selling fuel rails, but no response.

Thank you to those offering parts. I found fuel rails, reg and injectors on ebay, $75 plus $25 shipping. I perfer to do business with people on this site, but it didn't work out.

The good part is that the T/A was not running that bad, so the clog free rails should be fun and fast. I'll let you know how good.

My explaination... the engine was rebuilt, yes. But the shop I entrusted I think overlooked inspecting the fuel rails and claimed to clean the injectos. Because of this and a few other things, I now distrust their work. Maybe it's just 26 years of bad gas and too much sitting around not running daily. Moth *****, depending on the chemisty, either dissolve and burn or become acidic after buring, affecting the exhaust system, yes?

gemlins, aliens or women driven mad by the my denial, I'm looking forward to a wide open 305.

Re: Fuel Rails Clogged with White Stuff

Good to hear that you got what you needed. Keep us posted when you get your car running again.

Several years ago my son's car started running horrible and come to find out he got gas from a old mom & pop's store and they had removed the filter from the gas pump. It was like a real fine muddy substance that clogged the injectors. I had to drop the tank twice flush all the lines and replace all injectors.

Good luck with it, if you want me to test those injectors for you let me know. You don't know what you're getting there, and better to check them out.

I hope you can PROVE who did this and make them pay.

As far as the exhaust, I don't know...
