I have a similar idea in mind for a 383 sbc and i can give you an idea about what you have to do in order to make it work. For one you would have to go up to probably a 26 pound injector and would probably need to get a new prom chip for the computer. Also the stock tpi intake probably wont get enough air flow to reach the full potential of a 400 small block. However there are still a couple options. You could try upgrading to a edelbrock intake that is suposed to flow more air and a set of high flow runners. Edelbrock also makes high flow runners as well as a few other companies. Also holley makes a stealthram which is a complete intake manifold and plenum that is designed so replace the stock tpi unit. It takes the same throtle body and wires right up to your wiring harness. You do have to geta different fuel rail but it seems to be what most people have recommended on here to me. In short yeah you can put a 400 small block under that tpi system but to get the 400's full potential you will have to do something to make it breath better. There are a couple other options out there and im no expert but this info should get you started. Also as you probable already know you will have to get a set of headers and 3 inch exhaust as well. I have a 305 tpi and i started out with putting exhaust and a set of heads on it. This got be around 40 more horse then before. Now im swapping out from a 700r4 to a 4 speed manual and just put in a solid posi rearend.

i have headers on the 400sb and i kinda figured that i would need bigger injectors. i was just making sure that the tpi setup would bolt up to the 400sb since its a older motor.and my car is basicaly stock right now and i want to make a nice street car or weekend driver out of it. thxs for the info all of it helps a lot.
