INJECTOR QUESTION

I am doing a 305 to 350 swap. I am going to be using 24lb injectors along with a vortec HSR and vortec heads. My question is if I don't change my injector size in my program from 19 to 24 will my car run until I can have it programmed? Or, would I need to use my 19lb. injectors until I have it programmed? I want to keep the 305 complete because it only has 55k on it and I want to be able to return the car to stock if I ever need/want to. It would just save me time tearing the TPI apart and putting it back together. I did a search and could not find a specific answer. Thanks for the help!

Re: INJECTOR QUESTION

It's not going to run good that way. I would suggest continuing to run the 19's until you can get s chip burned for the 24's. You can bump the fuel pressure with an adjustable pressure to get by until you get the chip. I would be very careful about running the engine out much like that though because it will probably be fairly lean.

huh? if you put 24's in a engine programmed for 19's it will run pig rich not lean.. running with a 30% bigger injector will give you 30% more fuel at the same pw. You will wash all that extra fuel through the rings etc.. get the chip burned and replace the injectors at the same time.

Re: INJECTOR QUESTION

What if I bought a used chip for a 5.7 and ran that instead of the stock 305 chip? I'm sure I can get a stock 5.7 chip from someone on here. I'm just not sure where I will get this thing programmed. I have searched a lot and found no one in SE Michigan that tunes TPI set ups.....

Re: INJECTOR QUESTION

the stock 5.7 still had 22# injectors.

I swapped mine in my 305 to 24's yeah I tried running it...yeah I had a gallon of gas in my oil!
So be careful!
I had to trailer it to the shop to have them tune it for me.

RE Read what i said. Put in the OLD injectors and turn up the fuel pressure until you can get a correct chip burned for the bigger injectors. It will run albeit lean. Turn up the fuel pressure and you can drive it. Just take it easy until you can get the right chip. Don't run the larger injectors until then.

That will work fine if you can find some 22's.

Re: INJECTOR QUESTION

Awesome guys, thanks for the advice. I really appreciate all of the help I have got on here so far. I have multiple threads asking questions and have got good information from all of them. I will be picking up the donor 350 in the next few days. Casting numbers indicate that it's a good block and smog heads. It's suppose to be a pretty fresh 355. I am gonna plasti-gauge everything to make sure I am starting with a good bottom end and go from there. If the heads are stock I am gonns scrap them and run a vortec/hsr setup. Should be a nice little street engine......

Why don't you just stick the Yearone vortec motor in it? It comes with an Lt4 hot cam in it which is computer friendly and then put your HSR on top of it.

Re: INJECTOR QUESTION

I would love to, but I am already taking heat from the wife about buying the car. I am on a budget, but the main reason is a friend of mine gave me the 355 so it would be silly to burn $3,000 on a new engine. I found 062 vortecs on line for $125 and I have the capability to mill them and perform a 3 angle valve job. After that I will only need comp springs for $175. The engine is coming with roller rockers although I am not sure if they are 1.6 or 1.5. I know there is some additional issues with 1.6 that have to be addressed, but I am confident I will have a nice set of heads for less than $400......
