Code 33
My car is now having code 33 come up when I start my car. The code would always be intermittent and would come on after about a minute of driving for about 10 seconds. The car would feel sluggish and then it would go away and the car would run fine. So, I just bought new wiring harness connectors for the MAF burn-off, MAF power, and Fuel Pump relays where they plug into the relays. After putting these in, my car now has a constant code 33. What could be causing this?

Re: Code 33
Welcome to the club....Many of us have been fighting this code for a long time. I imagine you replaced the relays? That should have been first. Next I would try cleaning the MAF with maf cleaner. That worked for me a for a few months a few years back but it would always come back. What it ended up being for me was the MAF connector. It looked really good but if I touched it while the car was running, it would turn the car off immediately. I would try that and maybe splice in a new one just for some peace of mind. It worked for me.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Re: Code 33
Well I followed the diagnostic chart for code 33 and it said that the MAF burnoff relay was faulty. However, I changed it out with a couple other relays and I can hear the relay click when I plug it in so I know its good. I don't understand how it goes from being an intermittent problem before I changed the connectors to a constant problem with the new ones in? Any ideas?

Re: Code 33
I just tried switching out some parts with spares that I had. I tried switching the burnoff relay with a few others that I had laying around, swapped my current MAF sensor with another one, and even swapped the ecm. Nothign changed still the same results.

Re: Code 33
I have found another thing out with my situation now. When I leave the burn off relay plugged in, the car will sputter and is sluggish when running and the check engine light stays on (code 33). When I unplug the relay, the check engine light goes away and the car will run better. What could cause this?
Re: Code 33
i am currently fighting this code on my 88 formula 350 tpi, i have changed maf twice, both relays and put a new computer in it today with the old prom. when i swapped the mass air flow out a 2nd time, there was a sheet of paper that said the calibration of the prom could be off. when mine sets off the code my torque converter is stuck 100% locked up. its like driving a stick when you let off the gas it lunges forward. its allways code 33, it also has to crank forever to fire up. its very annoying and really dont know what else to do, im pulling my hair out lol
