i have a stock 305 tpi 5 speed

144,000 miles, it smokes a little when i start it then goes away, and after its been running say, maybe uh lets see maybe 30 minutes or so, we can hear the valves a little, it runs fine, but if you drive it a little hard it will start pinging like bad gas like that valve ping noise. its not smoking least not that i can tell while its running,

its almost like its running warm or hot, its running according to temp at or about 210. maybe a little more but thats after its been running for a while, doesnt seem to be getting hot or anything, i know when i got it last month it had a small coolent leak at the clean out for the heater core, and i ended up changing heater core, and it was block off completely i guess on one end of it, either the exit or entrace of core, i found it leaking into floor board while cleaning.

so my question is what is the temp on these cars supposed to run at or around, and what is the pinging noise.

im guessing the valves seals are going bad or gone bad, but what does that mean to me, do i have to remove heads and do a head job or something or what. can someone help me out here. im not looking for bunch of power just looking for dependablitly reliablity etc. im planning on giving the car to my daughter in less then a year as her 16th b day gift.

so id like for it to be right not a speed demon just good dependable strong but not off the wall.

thaks let me know stevehllsbr@aol.com would be best i get on here every now and again or 937 562 1501
