Open Shorty Headers

I have my 5.0L engine installed now and ready to start, but have to do some fabrication to the Y-Pipe. Is there any reason (other than fire) that I can not start the engine without the Y-Pipe installed?

Re: Open Shorty Headers

You will be fine... With shorties they route a little different(NOT under the car) so be carefull as to where the exhaust is pointed and not let it run for too long of a time.

Re: Open Shorty Headers

id get a couple of flanges and some scrap or cheap parts store pipe and make test tubes that will direct exhaust from the engine bay , but its like nufnuff said, youll be fine as is but youll be safer redirecting the flow the you can run it longer as you wont overheat and importand electrical devices under the hood

Good idea, I think I'll just weld up the Y-pipe like it has to be, before I start the engine.

Thanks, I appreciate the comments.
