Keeps throwing a code and bogging???

The car will run great and fine and then randomly it will trough a code and bog down. Not want to really go without almost flooring it. Then it will go away and run fine again?

All should be fine, it doesn't happen all the time, just sometimes. Maybe it is idling to low, it idles around the 600 range, only does this when warmed up. Could it be timing?

I didn't even think of that, I'm gonna check the code tomorrow and replace it just in case cause I'm driving it a hour away next weekend.

Possible that your distributor is starting to go.

Hmmm what that cause it to throw a code? I notice that it also will stumble alittle and kind of hunt for a idle.

Re: Keeps throwing a code and bogging???

This isn't a fault code. Code 12 when grounding the two terminals basically tells you that your car's on board diagnostics are functional.

Re: Keeps throwing a code and bogging???

Codes 32-EGR failure, 42-EST system failure, 43-ESC Knock sensor failure. The EST(electronic timing control) or the knock sensor circuit, either one, could cause the bogging. Check the knock sensor connector for damage or poor connection. Look at the distributor internals for corrosion. Check connections at the dist. Check ECM grounds at the rear of the cyl. heads.

could the timing being off cause that code? also what do I need to do about the egr? should I fix it? If I delete it will it throw the code? I need to fix this by fri cause I am driving it a hour away and don't want any issues.

Re: Keeps throwing a code and bogging???

An internal fault in the dist could cause this type of issue. Mose likely though, it is wiring. Could also be a broken knock sensor that is making intermittent contact. This is where depth of diagnostic skill comes in along with a labscope.

If the knock sensor circuit (ESC) has an intermittent open or short, the ESC module will pull 18 degrees of timing. This will kill power severely. A fault in the dist is more likely to shut the motor down.

I'm gonna change the ignition module and knock sensor and hopefully that fixes it

Re: Keeps throwing a code and bogging???

I really don't support swapping parts without verifying a failure. You don't really know yet what is causing the problem. If you have spare, known good, parts on hand that's one thing. But buying parts without verifying the cause of your issue will get expensive quick and even more frustrating. The knock sensor is easy to test with a scan tool and a long 3/8" extension. While watching "Knock Retard" on datastream, use the extension to tap on the block close to the sensor. You should see knock retard go as high as 18degrees. If not, you have an ESC problem. The nature of your problem is obviously intermittent which likely makes it a wiring problem, such as a loose connection. It may be a loose ground at the rear of one of the cylinder heads or a bad connection at the knock sensor. As I said before, it could be a bad knock sensor too.
