Another EEC Solution?

*89 TPI, stock ECM removed

So now I know I can manually control the purge solenoid on the EEC can, but I'd like not to have to do that. I've read where it's a real bad idea to run the line straight from the tank to the TB due to a backfire situation. What if I ran the line thru the canister without the purge solenoid. That would keep vapors going thru the canister and prevent the smell and, I assume, the backfire hazard. I've looked through the openings as best I can to make sure the incoming line does not connect directly to the purge outlet, which it does not. Note I can only see an inch or so down the purge outlet; I have run "feelers" down the tube looking for the junction point and it seems it's almost down into the charcoal.

If there is something I have missed, point it out. I can't see why this might be a bad idea. All opinions (other than put the stock ECM back) are welcome.

Re: Another EEC Solution?

I've been thinking of how to do this without an ECM as well. I'm thinking that I'll adapt components from a '77 Vette- canister and thermo vacuum switch. The TVS will act in place of the solenoid. I'm not sure I understand your plan. Can you elaborate?
