Fuel Pressure Regulator Question

I have a 91 GTA 350 5.7 and The top plenum is apart waiting for the Southbay Fuel injectors to arrive today or tomorrow. I also bought an adjustable fuel pressure regulator from them. I am new to all of this stuff but the tear down of the plenum was easier than what people have said on these forums.

Anyway, I have the 8 or so torx nuts on the fuel pressure regulator but they have the little metal safety pin or whatever in the middle. Is there a special torx for this or what do I need to do to get those off? Is this special wrench sold at Advance auto?

Next, since I am completely stock with 152,000 miles on the engine. Should I go ahead and change the fuel pressure regulator or just leave it and send back the adjustable one?

Next, if I do get it on there, what are the details on getting the right pressure? Tell me if I am right. Hook a fuel pressure gauge onto the rail and turn ignition to pressurize system? with or without car running or does it not matter or both? AN test to make sure it is 34.5 and adjust accordingly?

I am going to go ahead and change EGR as well while I am in there..

Re: Fuel Pressure Regulator Question

Hi Ray,

Good job on the tear down, not so bad after all. You will need a special tool, a safety torx. I would recommend just getting an assortment. After that many miles there is a good chance you will tear the fuel pressure regulator diaphragm during the installation process. Be extremely careful, I tore mine apart first thing, oops. I think 42-47 psi without the vacuum line attached and running.

Hope this helps.
