fuel pressure regulator question (spewing gas!)

I was trying to get the car started, and it would never turn over, so i looked on the ground, and there was a bunch of gasoline. It looks like the fuel pressure regulator was leaking badly. I'm going to change it out, but want to make sure I'm addressing the problem, instead of just a symptom. I have a 255 fuel pump - could it possibly be that it is pushing too much fuel or something? We just bought the fuel pressure regulator 2 months ago, and we hardly have any miles on it at all!

Unlikely. A big pump doesn't change the regulated pressure (unless the return line is too small and causing it's own restriction).
