TPI Cold air intake, anyone built one?

I'm really wanting to get rid of the factory air box on my 89 IROC, it just looks restrictive. Has anyone bought or built a cold air setup for their's? If so have you noticed a difference?

And post some pics if you don't mind..

Here's my stocker...

Cut the filter bottoms out and run dryer ducting from the filter to the fog light/grille area to make a sort of ram air....or better yet fab a plastic or metal box to really make it a sturdy ram air setup.

Its less restrictive than you think....that setup will support 500 hp 11 second motors. I made a switch to a home built 3.5" CAI and didnt see much if any gain on a mid 11 second motor

Back in the day Hawks used to sell a couple of them , but they have since been discontinued. I agree with Orr89RocZ. The one's I saw being offered were nothing more than something you could build yourself. I know years ago I removed my high beam bulbs and ran ducting to the back of them and attached it to the core support. I then installed blackouts (all black car) with a single 4 inch hole drilled in each one in front of the high beam location. Didn't look too bad, after all it was a race car.

I don't mind running the stock air box, the only issue is mine is cracked. If you see the pic up there you will notice it. And Hawks third gen wants $250.00 for a used one.. what the hell ever! Thats rediculous... so... either I'm going to try to fiberglass mine and fix it or find another one. Just didn't know if it was worth doing or not. Since it flows enough air I'll keep it stock looking, although I'm building a forged 355ci with a nice set of heads to install in front of a T-56.

Thanks

If you don't wanna go through the hell of glassing the cracks up you might consider checking your local wrecking yards. I've seen good ones around here, and I bet you could get one cheaper than the materials you would need to buy to fix yours up.
