1989 Iroc TPI Engine Harness ?

I have a 1989 Iroc with TPI 350 with a butchered TPI engine wiring harness.....
My question is can I use a 1988 TPI engine harness ?
Will this affect the V.A.T.S. or the motor not having a ninth injector etc. ?
Or do I need to locate a 1989 TPI engine harness.......anyone have a nice one for sale ???

P.S. Will a 89 Trans Am/ GTA TPI harness work with battery being on opposite side and how would I make this work ?

I probably would try and find a Camaro harness first before I went with a Firebird one, just so you dont have to deal with the differences in the front end (lights, battery). You can swap with an 88 harness, but you will have to deal with the cold start or ninth injector difference. You will have to use the computer from the 88 as well or you will have a prob with the VATS. However, thats a good reason to switch to the 88 to get rid of that. once you have an 88 harness and ECU, you will either have to swap in the TPI set up as well (with 9th injector) or deal with a bad cold start syndrome. The other way to go is to use the 88 harness, keep the 89 TPI and reprogram the 89 ECU to eliminate VATS. Im told by the experts here that the cold start sequence is not programmed into the ECU on the 88, just the temp sensor controlling the cold start directly.

Don't even think about using an '88 in an '89.
They are completely different.
'87 was one harness, '88 was a different one and '89 was different again.
Only '90-'92 are interchangable.

Hey Don, by that do you mean that the 88 engine harness wont be compatible with the 89 cabin harness? Or something else Im missing?

Re: 1989 Iroc TPI Engine Harness ?

The pinouts don't match.
The connections in the '88 are not the same in the body as the '89.
Things in the '89 are not in the '88 body connector.

Re: 1989 Iroc TPI Engine Harness ?

Yes, but that does require more work because of the battery location.

You could switch the battery over, then you could build a custom air intake.

Thanks Don for confirming, I just pulled an 87 88 and a 89 harness and didnt want to have to line them up on the floor and check the difference.
I always plan on using the whole harness in my projects anyway (cabin+engine together)

To the OP:
Perhaps it might be easier for you to repair your existing harness by using parts of the others? I guess it depends how bad the damage is on yours
