305 power touch up.

Ok so I'm going to tune up my wifes 305 Camaro, 92 TBI 305 RS Anv pkg. I have the TPI from an 87 L98 that is a MAF system and will need to convert to speed density. The TPI parts will sent out for full porting, with the vortec heads touched up and ported. Adding on an IROC factory airbox, 1.6 rockers, and getting a new chip burned. What else can I do to tweek up the power a touch and still have it look stock and run decent. If I go overboard on the engine and she does not like it I'm in the dog house.

I also have headers I may put on but jury is still out on that.

Re: 305 power touch up.

Seems like a whole lotta work for not much gain. Since headers/3" exhaust and the TBI mods in the TBI forum will net you ~200hp/275ft lbs of torque, the TPI should only give you ~15hp/20fttq more.

A full port on a 305 will give you "a little" more for the 305.

You mention that you will have the "vortec" heads touched up- are these the 87 or 92 heads? Neithor of those are "vortec" heads.

Serious I would just do the headers/exhaust/TBI mods and leave the rest for another day.

Re: 305 power touch up.

The heads are the stock units on the 92 and the TPI is off the 87C4 I had. I have everything for the TPI converstion. The TBI 305 seems so doggy compared to 305s with the TPI. I was told center bolt valve covers denote they are vortec heads, was I miss informed?

True Vortecs came out in 96-2000. They have a sawtooth pattern on the front of the head for identification, and have 4 bolts each side mounting the intake to the heads. Centerbolt Valve covers started in about '87, IIRC. The heads you have are likely the Swirl Port TBI heads.

For a little more power, you could go to an LT1 cam. I think you engine should be Roller Cam.

Re: 305 power touch up.

Thanks, for the info on the heads, I was looking at possibly just putting a stock 350 Hyd Roller cam in it for a bump in power. The 350 is only a tick bigger but in a 305 it will make a difference across the board. My wifes sister had a Camaro 350/350 that needed premium, didn't like traffic, didn't get mileage, had no A/C, didn't have the creature comforts she drove daily. Now my wife wants a nice daily driver durability, with cross country ABILITY that is not a gas hog.
