305 TPI No start

I have a 1987 trans am thats been such a headache, it previously wouldnt start the timming was jumping around so we replaced the timming chain ran it for a few days then back to no start, long story short we replaced the pick up coil and fired right up, but now once again a week later back to no start, the injectors have been ohmd, and checked to see if there pulsating and they are good, fuel pressure has been checked 43 psi on prime up and when it did run i believe it was 40 psi idling, has a new fuel pump, distributor cap and roter, pick up coil, ignition control module, wires, spark plugs, water pump, Raidator ,Mass air flow sensor and connecter, the thorttle positon sensor is right on 0.43 along with the timming 6*BTDC. have no clue where to start now any help is appreciated

Re: 305 TPI No start

.. Is your 9th 'cold start' injector working?

.. How do the sparkplugs look? dry? wet/flooded? clean?

Re: 305 TPI No start

Adjust the TPS to .54V...

How long does the fuel pressure stay at 43# after prime?

Does it smell rich when trying to start? Injectors could be leaking...

Does it have VATs?

Re: 305 TPI No start

Glad to hear one thing is fixed...

Is the hold down bolt for the distributor partially / completely stripped?

Is the timing chain old, it could have stretched?

Hope this helps.

Re: 305 TPI No start

The bolt is fine and the timming chain was just replaced. What happens is my car runs nice and fine starts up everytime then once its parked over night and you go to start it the car doesnt want to start but if you loosen the distbutor and turn it counter clockwise a quarter inch it fires right up and this keeps happening.

Re: 305 TPI No start

How many times have you had to adjust the distributor, meaning what is the total "distance" you think you have turned it?

As Buzz mentioned: How do your plugs look? Is your 9th injector working?

Maybe the engine is too rich on startup and needs the extra spark advance to fire...

Hope this helps.
