HELP NO POWER....

Good morning/Happy New Year,

I just replaced the intake gaskets on my 92 Firebird with the 5.7.

I put it all together fired it right up but now when it warmed up and I took it for a spin and it drives like its pulling a trailer no power what so ever!!! it will go just not as before...

Checked for leaks dont hear anything and wonder if I am off a tooth on the distributor when I put back in...

If so what do I need to set the timing at idle as well as do I need to set it at a certain rpm as well ...

Before I locked my race car out I would to set it at 3500 rpm to get correct advance with the curve idle didnt matter lol...

BTW... Which connector is the EST on the dist? PASS side or DRIVER on the back of the dist...

Timing is set with car idling in park. EST is on the passenger side firewall. Brown wire with a black stripe. It will be protruding out of the harness.Set timing to 6 degrees BTDC.

Re: HELP NO POWER....

Don't forget to undo neg. battery cable for a few minutes after timing is set. To erase code 42.

Re: HELP NO POWER....

.. Put the crank at 20 degrees BTDC and see if the rotor is centered on the #1 contact in the distributor cap... (rotate engine another one full turn if it's pointing the opposite direction)... it can be a little tricky to get proper alignment since the distributor rotates a little on the cam gear as it drops down... and then rotates more as it drops into the oil pump drive rod..

Re: HELP NO POWER....

Just a quick question... Does it sound like timing is what my problem is?

I just want any feedback I can get otherwise it runs fine but won't pull for beans...

Hope this settles the issue and its good to go from there lol

Give me a carb and a simple HEI anytime lol :P

Being that you just asked "which connector is the EST?", then it is 100% certain that your timing is not set correctly.

Look up the proper procedure for setting the timing on your car.
The information is on this site.
