305 Lb9 engine Going *400 Sbc TPI
305 Lb9 engine Going *400 Sbc TPI
Hi every one, Just recently Bought a 1988 Iroc-Z with a Lb9 engine in it,
amongst my friends who own V8 powered cars (monte carlos, Oldsmobile Cutlas..etc) they all go 4bbl Carb setups and they really know there thing in the Carb inducted engine...
Now for the past weeks i have been reading lots of information About Tune Port Injection and i am Planning on Building up a 400 Sbc Tpi for my Camaro, I just Spotted a Block thats not too expensive and i dont minde putting the money on it to get the Tpi setup running at its best in the 400.
now me being a intermediate Diy mechanic, i searched over the forum for a guide line onto where to start, and i see lots of people positive about the 400tpi and equally some are negative about it, so i was wondering if any one of you guys could help me out on this build, as of parts wise: with some information why should i put this part and not that one.
I will be buying the Block next week, I intend to Buy:
-Crank
-Connecting Rods
-Pistons
-Heads
-Valves
-Timing Chain kit
-all the necesery parts for the TPI setup..
i wont go all the way as you have probably guessed that im Going to Start from A with this Project and i want to go to Z
Now as i dont know much about these engine even though i did some research what is the Hp and torque should i expect from a build like this?
i dont want to compare to Any TBI or 4BBL setup as this is a TPI thread and i wish to learn more on TPI while Building this.
Id apreciate your help on this Thanks to all

Edit: been reading since last post, I am now considering buying an Aftermarket Block, due to the fact that OEM blocks seems to have Cracking problems... i plan on Puting the Miniram setup for this 400ci TPI setup any suggestion for the block? should i go Aftermarket or will a OEM block do it for my build? im not going to Oversize the bore as it seems the walls arent too stiff for it, that is if i go with the OEM
