'89 350 - junkyard injector hunt, what swaps?
Hello all!
After doing a resistance test, I've determined my '89 Formula most likely has three bad injectors (all but 3 are at 16-17 ohms cold; the duds are reading 8, 4, and 2 ohms respectively).
The local self-serve junkyard sells injectors on the cheap. Since I'm trying to get this car running as cheaply as possible, I'm hoping to yank a set there.
Does anyone know what makes/models would make good donors? My motor is all stock, so factory specs should still apply.
I know they've got several supercharged Series II 3800s around, a couple of third-gen Vortecs (a 4.8 and a 5.3, IIRC), in addition to the usual crap (4-bangers, 3100s, 3400s, NA 3800s, an assortment of TBI junk, etc). Would any of these be candidates?
I also understand that some Ford products may hold some promise - but I don't know squat about Fords, so not sure what to look for there.
Any info would be appreciated!

with used injectors, you don't know for certain what your getting.
my recommendation for replacement injectors would be to contact either southbay who is a sponsor here or FIC.

I have been wondering if early L36 injectors would be a good match for a L98, they are around ~23lb and the right style to clip in easy. I have a bunch of them I'd let go real cheap as I only have a LB9.
the L67 injectors are 36.5lb I believe so those would be too big

True. But since I can get a full set for $15, I figured it'd be worth a try
I've had decent luck with picking/running used injectors in the past, so this wasn't my first time at the rodeo.
I pulled a set of eight injectors in a random/indiscriminate fashion from two different Series 1 3800s (both happened to be '92s, one Bonneville and one LeSabre). They did indeed have the same connector as my old injectors, and were similar in size/shape:

Original is on the left, 3800 is on the right. Of course, no one would confuse the two for one another - but they have their similarities.
I installed all eight of them this afternoon. They did fit, but without proper clips I fear they could start leaking. Neither the 350 nor the 3800 clips are applicable in this situation. The system passes the leakdown test now, but I still don't trust it without.
At any rate, the engine fired right up after installation and actually idled for the first time since I've owned it. It's still not running well, but I have some vacuum line issues to deal with, and the old gas and garbage plugs/wires/cap probably aren't helping either.
I'll be sure to post again once I'm closer to being done, and especially once I decide whether to keep the 3800 injectors or not.

yeah, for that price its hard to go wrong.
as long as the top O-ring isn't out of the fuel rail, it looks like you may be able to use the top grove for the retainer.
to give you an ideal of what 1 really bad injector can do, that 2 ohm injector was really driving the current thru the ECM up, the ECM was seeing around 15-16 amps.
removing just that one 2 ohm injector, the ECM would have seen around 9 amps.
with all 8 of the injectors at 16 ohms, the ECM sees about 7 amps.
