TPI cylinder head help me pick
OK guys, here is my new motor setup to replace my LB9. New L-31R crate engine from Jegs with a Crane 2032 cam. I am not going to use the Vortec heads for a variety of reasons and instead swapping on either these AFR 916 or Edelbrock 60859 heads.
Car will have a long tube tpi intake setup on it. ASM runners and an Edelbrock base.
Which of these two heads are better for my application.
AFR 916

Edelbrock 60859

The AFR flow a little better but the Edelbrocks have a smaller combustion camber which will help increase my compression. The Edelbrocks are also $200 cheaper.
Opinions please. Thanks

Those AFR heads cost more than the 195. Get the 195 instead and maybe get them from summit. Then call up TPIS and get their .028 thickness head gasket to boost the compression by a 1/2 point.

The thinner head gasket from TPIS is a very good Idea. I think that will get me closer to 10 to 1 with the AFR heads. I think the 195 are a bit big for the mild cam and long tube setup I am going to use.

You have a similar setup to what I want. Have you ran your car at the track? I do own a superram intake but no sure if I want to use it because it is such a bear to install.
Also, any issues with exhaust ports on the AFR heads and your headers?

No issues with the exhaust ports. I am using Edelbrock headers. The only complaint I have is the bolt holes for the centerbolt valve covers are to shallow, so you have to cut about a 1/8-1/4" off the mounting bolts. I have not yet gotten to the track. I need to get a good tune and then I will get out to the track. I just need to get rid of my granny 2.77 gears.

I had no issue aligning the accessory holes with the brackets, but some of the holes are a little shallow. I trial fitted all the brackets and bolts and used a lock washer in a couple places to shorten the bolt. I know the studs on the back of the heads needed a lock washer to fit right.
