Blown head gasket?????

89 l98. I drove it some last year. When it was parked and I pulled the tpi stuff to be polished. The oil was just changed and level was perfect. Car sat outside with hood closed for about 4 months. I had the the plenum, runners and fuel rail off the entire 4 months. When I got them back I opened the hood and there was standing water on the engine. It rained alot late last year. I shop vaced off the water and dired everything put the tpi stuff back on. I didnt check the oil untill after I let the car run for only a few minutes. It had water in the oil. I drained 6 to 7 quarts of mixed water and oil out of it. I cant tell if they was any antifreeze. Could that much water get in through the fuel injector and runner holes? Do I have a blown head gasket? I have new oil in it and topped off the water. I had the hoses off also because I replaced the and installed a lower temp thermostat. Should I start her back up and watch the water level and check the oil or is there something else I should do first?

The only place water could have gotten through the intake would be into the cylinders. Except if you had distributor out, then yes, that much water could have gotten into the oil pan. You said it ran, the question is, did it run ok? if so, change oil couple times and thank your lucky stars.

Re: Blown head gasket?????

You really messed up there.

At best you will have rust in your cylinders and rings, which would cause most rings to seize. That will cause a great amount of blow-by.

At worst you had some hydrolock situation and have several tweaked engine parts, - pistons, wrist-pins, rods, possibly crank. There may also be corrosion on your cam lobes and/or any of your bearing surfaces, but that's a little less likely.

Also, if you ran the engine with the water in the oil, then the pump would have sucked up the water first and it will be in everything to include all of your lifters.

If it were me then I'd at least pull the engine, disassemble, and inspect everything. If there is no damage, then I'd be extremely happy and use the opportunity for some freshening up type maintenance.
