setting idle on tpi 305

ok when you are setting your idle do you need to leave paaper clip in our take it out before you start it. cause when i un plug my iac it will not start also when you put paper clip in the a b of the aldl is fan suppose to come on .

You can temporarily turn up the idle screw to keep it running since you will be adjusting it anyway.

I need to do this relearn tomorrow night, it seems each guide i read through is a bit different.

so when you take the paper clip out and start the engine, you have to put it in drive and get a helper to set the idle with it in drive ?? just going off that attached guide for a corvette.

some other guides ive seen simply say unplug the IAC and plug it back in which sounds stupid.
