Smog Pump
I've recently posted on here asking if you could remove the smog pump without triggering any codes for my '87 IROC-Z 305 TPI. All the replies stated that it could be done without triggering any emission codes. It's also called the Air Injection Reaction (AIR) system. We dismantled the entire smog pump system and plugged the exhaust manifolds. It runs better, but now we are now receiving codes 32 (EGR system), 33 (MAF sensor), and 45 (Rich exhaust). Are there any suggestions to solve this problem without having to install the AIR system? The AIR system is ECM controlled. By removing all the air equipment, would it not throw an EGR code because the circuit would either be opened or closed, giving the computer no information.

Re: Smog Pump
Unlike the newer OBDII computers, the old ECM's that run TPI have no capability of monitoring A.I.R. function. Those codes are unrelated to removing the pump, unless some other wires were accidentally disturbed.

Re: Smog Pump
Check to see if while removing parts, you didn't affect the parts that are throwing codes now, because removal of the pump should not cause any codes to be set.
