Air Intake

What is the best Air Intake set-up on a TPI (That's affordable)
I'm gonna be swapping a Vette TPI into a Monte Carlo and I don't think I'm going to use the stock air intake..I've heard good things about the Firebird intake with the housing with maybe a K&N filter which is what I'm considering at the moment these CAI systems I see people using seem to make no sense to me sucking hot air straight out of the radiator anybody have any opinions or thoughts on which is the best?

Re: Air Intake

well, the only one I have heard of is Edelbrock. I think Accel used to have one also, but I couldn't afford either. I used my stock intake and had it and the heads ported for $250.00. For my use, it suits me pretty well.

Re: Air Intake

I think jtsk is talking about runners/plenum/heads, but your talking about airfilter setups right?

I did a free "upgrade" that took maybe an hr total, and thats because i was very meticulas about it. Theres a thread on here i like alot, i posted itt below. What you do is cut rectangular "windows" into the stock "Y" air filter housing, this helps ALOT!!!! This made a big difference, possibly the biggest ive seen on my car. Also, cut the screens out of the MAF, and use K&N air filters. Also, something you HAVE TO DO, take the plastic piece the air filters sit in (NOT the Y housing) and cut the bottoms out. In other words, take the air filters out and youll see this little box-like thing under it, its majorly restrictive. Cut those boxes open and this helps alot. If you do these thing you will see an incredible difference, and all it cost you was some time and maybe $10 in stupid dremel cutting wheels that break too often He doesnt mention this in the thread, but its a must.

If your car uses speed density, not MAF (you could convert it tho), you can put a conical K/N filter right onto the TB. Its not perfectly conical, it gets wider at the back to fit the Tb of course. IDK if this is any better or not, but honestly, i think my setup is just as good if not better, that K&N is litrally RIGHT over the engine so its just sucking hot air in. The setup i have isnt sucking as hot of air in. But for the price difference, id say my ways the better route.
