can't get it to run

I have a 1987 formula 350 tpi, got it on a trade last year with a bad engine. I put in a 350 short block (stock) but with a mild cam (only little bigger than stock) I was told that you can do this with no other mods if you want to.. then I added stock 305 heads (58cc and smaller intake valves are the only difference) I got it running and it sounded really good idled fine and revs really good (never got to drive it yet) then when I finished the serpentine swap (from a later model including taking off all the emissions) I cannot get it to run good at all. no idle, can only get it to rev to 3000 rpm once then it wont go past 2000 and continues down till it dies, I have replaced all the relays, tried a new MAF no change, I will check the wiring next, any suggestions?? It was showing code 33 and then it showed code 34 once (and not since) back to code 33 any chance that with what I have in my engine (cam and heads with higher compression) the ecm is bad and any way to test it??? also is there any one on here near Syracuse NY that can reprogram prom chips?? I bought one for an 89 formula 350 but didn't realize my car doesn't have VATS so it wont work for me.... I read on here that some of my problems could be solved with reprogramming the prom. but I have no way to do it... please help....

I am having a similar problem.......try disconnecting your maf and cleaning up the plug connection. Also do a visual on the wiring going into the plug.
My wiring was bent going into the plug (straightened the wiring) and I used dielectric grease on the plug connection, both my code 33 and 34 problems went away.....no trouble codes for me but the car still stalls. good luck

Re: can't get it to run

ok I changed the harness plug for the MAF power relay (it was pretty ragged) then the car seemed to run great but still not idle... then after putting a few other items together (air intake assy) I was going to drive it, then it went back to not running good at all no idle and cannot rev it up, and started missing and all the time it has been running rich and I am wondering if it may run good for a little while until it starts flooding it out,, maybe if I change the threshold on the MAF from 45 gms /sec up higher if that may help me, anyone have done this??? help please

Re: can't get it to run

not sure about increasing thresholds but here is a link that shows the schematic on the bottom of the page for troubleshooting the maf.
