MAF bracket differences ?
Hey guys,
i bought an air intake of an 89 GTA a while ago to replace my earlier style box one.
i thought id bolt it on tonight but straight away had a problem, looks like my radiator support maybe different because it doesnt go anywhere near !
my cars an 87 with dual fans, did the later year cars have different setups or something because this def doesnt fit, looks like im just gonna have to stick with my uglier air intake instead

Re: MAF bracket differences ?
Yes, they are different. Actually, there never was a MAF bracket for '85-'87.
When SLP sold their cold air kits, they had to weld an extension on the stock bracket. I know because I have one on my '85.

You must have a early version because the later ones were just a bent up, one piece made out of flat stock with no ribs like the factory one.
To the OP, take the 2 10mm bolts out, set the meter and bracket into place and you can see how much you need to make the holes bigger. Its been awhile but I don't think its much. Maybe it is been awhile since i played w a early car..

this is my stock 89.(ignor the other maf on top) I think dual fan cars all had the same rad support but maaybe not...

Here it is. I bought mine shortly after they came out. Was hoping for metal box like their prototype.

Re: MAF bracket differences ?
Thats nifty!
I saved the pic in my SLP file. I have seen the pix of a lot of the very early SLP stuff. I collect the pix sooo Its always nice to find a new item! thanx!
I'm going to have to find the flat part and get a pic of it.
It looks like there is a very slight difference in the upper rad plastic for 89 and up? cars

Re: MAF bracket differences ?
thanks guys, so i just have to extend the bracket out a bit then, seems do-able !
i thought the 85-87's had that metal bracket too to keep the stock airbox in place ? i always thought it was just missing on my car as the previous owner used a big cable tie around the MAF and around a little pipe near the rad to keep the air intake away from the Alternator belt !
