I've been investigating a starting problem in my '85 trans am and I found this strange module (the one on the left). The black one is cruise control module but I have no idea what the other one is.

I took it apart and I noticed it's a Delphi part and looks rather worn. I'm not sure the red stuff should be there on the backside.

It surely isn't an ABS module or a radio amplifier since radio works just fine.

 

It is an amplifier. You have the optional UQ7 subwoofer stereo, there is a button on the dash to turn it on. Your stereo will still work without it being on.
