88 IROC TPI VIN F oxygen sensor location?
I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this, so if someone thinks it should be moved to the exhaust section, that's cool, just do it.
Anyhow, I'm starting a total rehab of my 88 IROC (in a separate thread) and someone eliminated the cat, along with all of the clamps and flanges on the entire system from the manifolds to the tailpipes. I'm not happy at all about that, but that's off topic.
I need to know specifics about the oxygen sensor placement. Like what is proper, and then what is BEST. There is no o2 sensor bung in the piping anywhere. I DO have one sensor in the driver's side manifold?!
Is that the right place for it? What the ??? My V6 car has the o2 sensor after the y junction and before the cat. That seems right to me. I bought some o2 sensor bungs and planned on welding them in the same position on my IROC so as to install the OEM sensor and then have a place to install the wide-band sensor when its tuning time.
Is there anything wrong with putting the sensor in this location on a MAF TPI engine? Wouldn't you WANT the sensor there to get the best reading?
Just a little confused...

I placed one in the left and right exhaust collector on each header.. 1 for the computer and 1 for the wide band 02.. But the drivers side manifold is the proper place for it.

Wouldn't the ECM get a better, proper reading if it was placed after the "Y" and before the cat?
I think I'm going to move it there since I have the entire exhaust to do anyway.

If you run a 3-4 wire heated sensor it will be better all around.

So, one wire is for the ECM, two wires are for the heating element, what is the 4th wire for?

Is the four wire jobbie supposed to be more accurate or more efficient?

I use a 3 wire sensor from a 90s fox mustang 5.0. Don't let the 4th wire get you excited, its just a case ground.
The reason to use a heated 02 is so it wont cool off during extended idle and if place'd to far away from the manifold. The are also a good idea if your using headers.

Sounds great. I guess I'll start running those when I am replacing them.
Where do you wire up the positive for the heating element? Is that just ignition on? Are you using a relay of some sort? Do you have it tapped into another circuit?
Just curious as to what your setup is like since its working properly.
Thanks!
