engine starts, drives then stalls no code!

ok my 86 TPI v8 auto trans am has had almost everything replaced over the past 3-5yrs.

so i am confused when out of the blue i start my car and head to work and i only get a few feet down the road and the engine stalls or cuts off or dies.

still got power. i put it in park and it starts right up, seemed almost when i slowed down it just stalls.

I'm thinking either a distributor or air or fuel problem but i don't know where to start because no codes are being read by the ecm reader except the generic 12 code for the ecm.

any ideas?

fuel pump is the only thing i haven't replaced yet but shouldn't that throw a code?

I'd think the fuel pump would throw a code.

Remove your ignition control module on your distributor and bring it down to a parts store and have them check it. I had a very similar problem with my Gta. Although it would only stall after the engine was warmed up

Check the EVAP system, if not working properly somtimes can cause a problem like that without throwing a code. Check the purge valves and solenoid. I'm having the same issue. Only difference is that when I fill up the tank full, I have a gas leak from the tank opening pointing to high preassure in the tank. After researching, that symptom in addition to stalling/cutting off pointed me to the EVAP systme. In my case the purge valve that allowing the gasses from the tank to the canister might be bad, in your case it might be the valve that allowing the gasses to go in the throttle body or even the solenoid.

Yes, you will need a vacuume pump to test the purge valves, I recommend on getting one since those valve are pricy, around $20-$30 but you can find them at the junk yard for few dollars just make sure to test them and see if they will fit your application. The cheapest vauume pump tester I found was at harbour freight tools. If you don't have one in your area you can always order it online. The solenoid replacement depends on the style of your canister as there are few different styles each with a different solenoid location and style.
