Re: fresh motor,Fuel issues?

Are you getting a constant code 42 ? If not double check continuity on the est wire at the ecm pin c8 and the icm connecter.

I only get a check engine light when the wire is disconnected,I don't have any way to check for codes.I will check the continuity tomorrow afternoon.Thank you for the consistent advice.

Re: fresh motor,Fuel issues?

advance control signal is a white wire, so either your ecm is bad or your icm is bad.

also checked the knock sensor readings for the heck of it.....3.92-3.94k ohm from knock sensor to block right beside it
4.92v with ign on at the plug to ground

so got a stupid question what is the advance control signal wire for and do I need to check it?also stupid question what is the icm?I assume it is the ignition control module but just wanna clarify thats the module in the distributor...

Re: fresh motor,Fuel issues?

The icm, is the ignition control module in the distributor. The knock sensor is within spec. If the pickup coil was wired backwards the timing would retard once the est is reconnected. I don't believe there is a way to check the icm for advance control. The ecm controls the ignition advance vs rpm and engine load.

I just pulled the distributor and I'm going to take it tomorrow to get a brand new one.I've already had the replacement ordered since it's still under warranty.i will try that one more time then I will just fork out the hundred bucks for another ECM if that doesn't fix the problem. Thanks again bro for all the help!I'll keep you posted

well the car sat for a very long time while I was in the process of gathering parts and such...I'm suspicious of weak solder joints and stuff like that also possibly in the ecm.I'm not getting my hopes up though because I've tried all this before.I'm just hoping autozone has screwed up on the last distributor they sold me
