Fuel Problems
Fuel Problems
Hi all,
I have a '87 Monte Carlo in my garage that I'm trying to fix for a friend. It has a 350 TPI instead of the carb'd 305 H.O. it came with. I'm having problems getting fuel to the engine. If I spray it into the Throttle Body it will run until I stop manually supplying it. I've replaced the fuel pump after doing some research to see what pressure/flow the engine required. The fuel lines and filter have been replaced and still nothing. What am I missing? If I can't get a decent resolution I'm going to rip the TPI stuff off and go with a carburetor like it should have been. Does anyone have any advice for either method? Thanks for any help.

Re: Fuel Problems
Need some more information like what year the TPI system is and what computer and harness you are using. Assuming that you have pressure at the rail (you measured it right?) after turning the key on, then it must be the injectors. You should put a noid light on for a quick check to make sure they are pulsing. You should also check the ohms of resistance of all the injectors to make sure they are where they should be. A shorted injector coil could be responsible for your problem, so could VATS, and finally it could be that the ECM isn't seeing ignition pulses so it won't fire the injectors. Again this is all assuming that you have solved your fuel pressure issues and the pump runs after oil pressure builds and the engine fires on the starting fluid. Pull any codes from the computer and report back.

Re: Fuel Problems
Can a Vats problem keep your fuel pump from getting the voltage needed to run? Having trouble getting fire to the pump on my 89 iroc.
