327 TPI worth it?
OK, have a chance to pick up a .40 over 327. Wondering if I could build a nice little street motor with it using my 91 TPI? I have SLP runners and ported plenum on my current 305, along with some other bolt on goodies. I like different, wondering if the 327 would be a good torque-y street engine with the right heads/cam and the TPI. I don't want a HSR or other intake, and I don't wanna hear "you should get a 350". If the 327 won't work well with the TPI, give me valid reasons why. everybody and their brother can put in a 350, I just like different and I wanna keep the TPI. Lookin for constructive help. thanks.

the tpi will choke the 327 at high rpms just like any other small block. but if you build it to only rev 5-5500 she'l run like any other small block with a tpi setup. ul make more then a 305 and less then a 350. but that block is 40years old and .40 over, the 327 is probably less budget friendly. but with 113 heads, proper cam, a ported tpi, and a good exhaust you should have no problem reaching 327bhp@5-5500rpm. not to mention every bit of 327 wheel ft-lbs.

Re: 327 TPI worth it?
no its not worth it and this is why,you could simply buy a 383 stroker(400 crank and rods) kit.keep your stock pistons and create a 335 stroker it will make good power and torque and you can still get good gas mileage and take out a lot of the 350 owners,as far as heads simply gets some vortec heads and fuller rocker arms, get a gm lt4 hot cam and use your existing tpi setup you will have a nice little motor that well give a 350 hell and some.but by the time you add the cost to do all of this.you could have simply brought a 3 gen 5.3 vortec or even 4.8 and be a head with power driveability and gas mpg.

Re: 327 TPI worth it?
I write this as a fan of TPI and a of somebody who hopes to complete a 420 SBC with FIRST intake.
Is the 327 free or "cheap"? Yes the 327 will give you increased power just by having more cubic inches than a 305. I don't think swapping engines is worth the hassle since it won't be much of an improvement over what you have. Plus the 327 is already bored out which means it has less life potential. Odds are of you needing to rebore it are slim but still there.
Even though TPI has its limits, I think if you wanted to swap engines, a basic 383 or LS would be the way. Yes TPI would not reach its potential on a 383 but it will still make lots of power and you could use most of your current parts. LS swaps are nice but you loose TPI factor plus they have their own added costs (wiring harness, headers, etc). If you are going to invest the time and money with a swap while keeping TPI, my vote is for a 383.
btw - nice car, you have good taste : )
