Engine Idle Problems
We own a 1987 IROC-Z 305 TPI. We've been fixing the car up for a year trying to remove the engine light with no luck. We replaced the Throttle Position Sensor, Computer, and MAf sensor. We replaced the MAf sensor today with the correct part, but still cannot either remove the engine light (code 33) or get the engine to idle. You have to hold the accelerator for a minute in order to get the engine to idle, because the engine refuses to idle without doing so. We cannot figure out what to do or how to fix this problem. Everything else about the car is good. Besides the engine light and idle problems, the engine runs great. Also when the car starts, one of the cooling fans comes on and stays on all the time. Isn't the fan supposed to come on at a certain temperature. Any help would be appreciated greatly.

Re: Engine Idle Problems
Did you replace the maf power and burnoff relays also?? Fan relays can go bad and stick on or off. bad Ecm, relay, ground, power. Way to many things to just have us guessing.
Grab a factory service manual from Helm, pricey but worth the money.

Re: Engine Idle Problems
cant figure this one out. replaced the ecm .maf sensor and throtle position sensor. relays are fine. every time we get a new code we replace what the code relates to. then we get another different code. its a piece of gar... . ready to tear it down and go carburator. another thing ,sometimes it will idle and run fine, and other times it wont. it just depends on the flip of the key. could vacuum be an issue, i believe ther was a switch on the brake pedal for cruise ,and i think it went to the vacuum canister. someone removed it. however it dosent seem to have any sort of leaks. puzzeled.

Re: Engine Idle Problems
Others have had this issue with Micro Tech and other aftermarket mafs.
