Vortec L31 or Aftermarket Heads?
New here, from a posting standpoint....
I am just like the next person building an engine and seeking info...
I'm putting together a 383 stroker and have a fully ported and polished set of 12558062 GM Vortec heads.
The intake valve on these is 1.94" and I think the motor would die off over 4500rpm because as we all know the 383's need air to breathe.
My question is would it be worth while and spending the $250 for the local machine shop to open them up to 2.02" on the intakes or just sell them and get an aftermarket head?
Thanks,
Justin

The intake and cam will primarily determine that; you don't say.
The Vortec's may be adequate depending on what other rev restrictions you have
What are the flow numbers on the heads?
The Vortecs flow so good out of the box porting is generally not recommend because most guys screw it up and the flow ends up worse than stock

Re: Vortec L31 or Aftermarket Heads?
The cam I'll be installing is a XR276HR-10 from Comp Cams.
1.6RR set up with .502" lift on intake and .510" on exhaust.
The intake setup is a Scoggin Dickey Lower Base plate with TPI unit on top with SLP runners, dual 58MM holley throttle body and upgraded Fuel injectors. (not sure PSI right now)
I know I'll have to get different springs and there are other ways to cheat the lift due to the fact that the Vortec heads are only good for about max .480" and I'll need .525" to be on the safe side.
