The hole that is in the center, not the spark plug or exhaust obviously, is that for the fan switch/coolest temp sensor or what? Thanks

Depends on the side of the engine
One head has the temp gauge sender , the other has the fan switch

Check out what ( a single wire ) engine wiring nearby you have that is not connected to anything;
the connector on the end of the wire will tell you what unit ( sender or switch ) you are missing
The coolest temp sensor ( CTS ) for the computer is always at front of the intake ; not in the head
