91 Formula Firebird flat fuel miss once it warms.
I recently purchased my third 3rd Gen, the 1991 Formula Bird, 350 TPI so I am still learning about this particular car. It has produced some unusual problems so far.
Start the car cold, purrs like a kitten, rev the car to 5k, sounds great. Car warms to 160+ degree operating temperature, develops a miss at idle. Put it in gear and its like stepping on a wet sponge and wont hardly pull out of its own tracks. Spits, sputters, and misses. I started diagnosing her so far and what I have done/am doing.
1. Checked Ignition Module on 2 separate parts stores machines. Passed 8 times total.
2. Coil seems to be firing hot and fine. Hurt like hell when it hit me after it was warm..
Checked resistance and passed.
3. New Plugs, Wires, Button. Cap looks nearly new. **At this point I sorta ruled out spark problems**
3. Will be installing a new Pick up coil while I have Intake off (will explain later) even though the old one passed resistance/continuity..
4. TPS Sensor is regulating voltage at idle and wide open throttle appropriately.
5. New fuel pump and filter.
6. Propane tested around the intake checking for leaks, Mixed results.. As I got close to the front of the intake and more and more near the throttle body it revved, but it could be sucking it through the throttle body.
7. Tried to check fuel pressure but broke the little black Schrader valve in the fuel rail, so had to take off the rail to dig it out.
8. Since I am going that far, I am going to go ahead and do a top end gasket set just in case the intake gasket is bad.
9. Will also be putting in an adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator.
Is there anything I am missing sensor wise that would cause a problem similar?
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks

not from a fixed calibration before it warms up ( open loop )
now you need to pull the error codes from the computer to see if any sensor related problems are present
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tech...s-dumbies.html
Be AWARE ;
a ECM fault code means the ECM has seen something it doesn't expect to under certain conditions. It means a fault somewhere in the whole circuit ; could be wiring , connections , grounds.
Not just that the major item of that system itself is at fault
See
http://www.iroczone.com/2009/10/1982...maro-firebird/
There are detailed fault diagnostic charts in the factory service manual to work through for each code to identify the ACTUAL problem .Do not start replacing parts until you have done the full diagnostics
Many on here have wasted $$ replacing something only to find out the problem was a bad connector

Thanks Vetteoz:
I am not blowing any SES light at all. Would I still be having codes if I have no SES light?

Key on, it comes on. Once it fires, it goes off. That's kinda why I'm leaning towards a physical problem too. Could the computer be shot?

Ohm your injectors, cold and then warm. I think you'll find a few going kaflooey at operating temps.

Re: 91 Formula Firebird flat fuel miss once it warms.
Wanted to give some updates on this Bird.
After new Adjustable FPR, Intake manifold gasket set top and bottom, pick up coil, plugs and wires, and new bosch 3 22lb injectors from South Bay Fuel Injection, the car is a blast! Screamin' Demon. Itll eat tires through first, second, and third. Such a happy boy!
I also want to HIGHLY recommend South Bay Fuel Injection. They are awesome! Also, if you have a question, they get back to you quickly even on Saturdays. I ordered on Tuesday and parts were here Friday evening! If you have any doubts about these guys, DONT! When I am ready for upgrades, they will be first on my list to call!
I will be posting pictures soon, gotta fix the headlights and a few knick knacks, but the car is VERY clean inside and out.
Thanks for the help everyone.
